the top is done!!!

it was done by friday, so i made my goal.
the pics have been posted in my flickr photostream all weekend.
it's been making the rounds in flickr land.
i've had nothing but positive response.

even though it's not done yet, it has quickly become my all time fav quilt.
oh how i ♥ thee.

so now...i'm afraid of quilting this beast.
there are a gozillion seams in this bad boy!!!

so i'm open to suggestions.
how would yall quilt it???
honestly.

or send it off and let someone else figure it out???

p.s. those mini pinwheels were the devil.
but aren't they cute???
i'm SO glad i suffered through them.

I was just thinking how those little mini pinwheels really are the cherry on top--then I got to end of your post.
Sometimes it's worth it.
this time it was!
GORGEOUS!

Ohhhhh, so pretty!!!!

I think I would quilt it 'by the piece' meaning outline each piece, if I had the time of course. So very pretty!

OMG!!! I LOVE IT!! That is the most fun quilt ever! How super cute is that??? Great job! Jenn

The colors are so vibrant. Now you want me to do more dyed fabric to complete my pinwheel quilt. So many things to do but my right foot says to take a LONG rest.

debd said...

I would want to emphasize the pinwheel motion...so swirls of some kind...either within each individual block, or randomly all over...

love that the sashing is white and the little pinwheels are in there spinning away!

really cute.

This quilt is awesome! I think I sat and looked at it for a full minute, which is really long in blog world! Great job. I would love it stippled but sounds like a bear! Good luck-

Beautiful top...sorry I haven't got any suggestions on how to quilt it...perhaps getting someone else to figure it out is the answer. :o)

It is absolutely beautiful!

i love, love, love your quilt top! so exciting that it's a contribution from all of your friends! ☺

Gorgeous! Love the traditional blocks with such happy fun colors! I don't know about the quilting - you really want to enhance the blocks, I would think. The lines do make that particular quilt just pop! Maybe dense quilting on the white, less dense on the colors??

Fabulous top! Of course, quilting other peoples quilts, I have many ideas and see many possibilities. If you are going to give it a go yourself, I would probably do an overall meander or loops. Something of that sort. You can also stick to straight line quilting, but I think this one would call for a little fancier quilting. Now If you have someone else quilt it, the sky is the limit. Good luck and I can't wait to see it complete.

WOW! That's awesome and I love the mini pinwheels! Too cute!!! I'm not sure but I think I would send it out OR do the straight stitch. My two suggestions. It looks great.

it's perfect. I love it. No suggestions here about how to quilt it. I'd probably stipple, but that's always my standby. good luck.

It's beautiful, Rachel.........and the mini-pinwheels are just the right touch. Sorry I can't advise you on the quilting as I am NO good at that.... *sigh*

SOOOOO AMAZING!! Great to sit and look at... the straight quilting gives it a vinatge feel for sure and is a bit different from the everyday stipple... Show pics when done :)

i LOVE your top, it is beautiful...love all the blocks and the colors are superb!!! I don't think i'd stiple it or do the straight lines ... i think you need something special for this one!

Now that is one happy quilt, Rachel! I can see why you love it so much! I would do something like a fan pattern or curves and loops, but whatever you do it will look fantastic!
Cheers!

it is beautiful Rachael - well done!

I think I would probably stipple quilt it... or send it to someone else! Looking forward to seeing it quilted.

Rachel - I starting reading your blog 6 months ago and you must be the kindest, most creative, and tender-hearted woman. You inspire me and when I read your blog, I wish I lived down the street from you so we could be friends. I started quilting 3 years ago when my youngest left for college. You and your blogging friends are exactly what I've been looking for! I look forward to seeing each of your blog entrys - you have such a good eye for design, color, and photos. Thank you for always making my day! Kate

ohman, that is one awesome quilt! Me...I'd send it out, but then, well, you know. hahaha.

Desiree said...

I'd have to quilt it myself because I can't afford to send things out so this is what I would do:

Pin it with the backing facing up and then quilt it from the back too (this way running over a gazillion seams won't matter!) and I would quilt it in a slightly large, random, all over stipple!

It's time to do the happy dance!!

What a great sampler quilt! I adore the little pinwheels in the sashing. Very cute, Rachel!

The quilt is so pretty!!!! I love it!

Every time I finish a top and get it loaded on the frame I freeze. However, when it is quilted I feel just like you do now. I would do an overall, like stipple, rather than straight line, much harder.

jaybird said...

looks great.. as always...

as for quilting i'd mail it off to julie and ask her to quilt it with her loopy allover design on her big 10ft frame ;-) ... she'd say yes because she loves you... and frames do a wonder with a million seams and make it like they aren't even there.

Deb said...

I was going to ask you what you were going to do about quilting it!! LOL all those nasty little seams to quilt over!!

It looks awesome though, it's come together so so well.

She's a beauty Rachel! I'd quilt around each individual piece. ;-).

Cheryl said...

I absolutely love it! Eye Candy is right! I can't wait to see what you decide about the quilting!

Rose said...

love love love (♥ ♥ ♥) hehe the mini pinwheels!! They are so cute and totally add the perfect touch in the sashing. I am so scared of triangles...I did a stacked coin table runner and managed to have it come out skewed. Terrified to do that many triangles!! But love the pinwheels, and I'm seeing lots of quilt blocks set in white lately, may have to try that. Don't ask me about quilting though, I am still stuck in stitch in the ditch or just tying it :(

Rachel...that is one PRECIOUS quilt. I absolutely love it! If it were me, I would definitely send it out and let someone else do it...but that's me! Have a wonderful week!

Vickie E said...

well I'd am on the side of ThimbleAnna...I'd quilt each piece or block individually. I wouldn't do an overall design on this quilt. that's just me. I think you may want to send it to Jackie in CT!!

Donna said...

Wow, Rachel, what a decision! I would send it out, I think, but only if I truly knew the person I was sending it to by reputation. The only quilt I ever sent out came back a disaster and I was never so disappointed in my life! Then again, I have every confidence that you could tackle this yourself and it would come out fabulous! Good luck with whatever you decide.

met you on PAT's blog...wonderful site...love the tops you posted!!

That quilt top is fantabulous! You should be so proud of yourself!

There are lots of very talented long arm quilters out there, and some who still quilt by hand. If your plate is full, find someone to finish it for you!

I think you'll be very pleased and surprised with the results.

Rachel said...

WOW! This is gorgeous! I really like the colors and the patterns you chose.

OOOHHH!! Love that quilt. I think I would send it out and let someone do some special quilting on it.

hmmm. I'd probably send it out. But I love how Tia quilted her 8two8 quilt...so I might say like that. But the seas, oh, the seams!!!

I am so much in love with that quilt top - it's totally amazing!
